USKF Launches ‘Accelerating Digital Inclusion for Girls and Women’ Project in Pekua

It is necessary to include subjects like science, engineering, mathematics and technology in the national education system from the primary stage to make adolescent and young women skilled and competent in the information technology sector. Also, keeping in mind future employment opportunities and needs, vocational education system needs to be developed for them.

On Thursday (April 22), the project ‘Accelerating Digital Inclusion for Girls and Women’ was launched in the presence of the Executive Director of Upokulio Somaj Kollan Foundation (USKF) at Pekua Upazila.

On the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day 2021, Upokulio Somaj Kollan Foundation (USKF) organized a panel discussion. ” The main objective of this event is to discuss the challenges and actions to accelerate the digital inclusion of adolescents and young women in a safe online world.”
The executive director of the Upokulio Somaj Kollan Foundation (USKF) said that the importance of programming and coding in information and technology is increasing now. This subject should be given importance in primary education to make girls successful in information technology sector.
He also said that digital labs will be established in all unions in the entire Cox’s Bazar district gradually, which will make teenagers and young women more interested in this sector. Along with training and incentives, Upokulio Somaj Kollan Foundation (USKF) is working to develop women leadership in the ICT sector.
The upazila executive officer said that only 9-12 percent of women are currently in the ICT sector in our country. In the entrepreneurial sector this number is even lower, 2-3 percent. In various discussions we have seen that there is a fear of technology, especially ICT at work. But it is very important that we work to change this fear.

Project director Abdul Hamid said that all the successful women entrepreneurs in the information technology and ICT sector should come forward in the society to encourage others. Adolescents and young women must be prioritized to ensure participation in the sector as well as ensure gender equality in leadership at all levels. But the most important thing is to change the perspective. We all have to come forward to ensure the safety of women at all levels.
