A project called “secure address” is launched to rescue and care for stray and abandoned animals in Pekua
“secure address” for rescue and care of stray and abandoned animals Coastal Social Welfare Foundation launched a project called The project will provide medical care, food and shelter to animals in need while raising awareness about animal welfare in the community, said ASM Ershad, executive director of the organization. He also said that for no reason, animals are being tortured and killed in various ways in Bangladesh. Still many are reluctant to consider it a crime. Again these criminals are not being brought under the law and punished. Because the current law in Bangladesh is not enough to prevent violence against animals, he demanded to protect animal rights and amend the law.
Abdul Hamid, program director of the organization, said that people are becoming more inhumane when they behave violently towards animals. Violence is increasing in the family, society and the state. People who cannot show love to innocent animals, how can they be kind to people?
Animal Resources Officer Nazmul Haque said, “Animals are tortured in different areas of Dhaka city almost every day. People always kick them, hit them with bricks, pour hot oil and water on them, gouge out their eyes, and also hit them with sharp weapons for no reason. Some are even raped by sick people. The existing ‘Animal Welfare Act’ of the country is not adequate to prevent these crimes. There are many loopholes in the law. Many forms of animal abuse are not criminalized in this Act. That needs correction.”Mentioning the need for strong laws to protect animals, he further said, “If any animal is killed or hurt and raped without any reason, there should be strong laws for this and they should be brought under punishment.” Otherwise they will jump on people in the society.
The above speakers said these words at the launch of the project yesterday.
